River Walk Educational Trail and Outdoor Classroom
The Riverwalk Educational Trail in Butler, KY, is a proposed environmental education feature withinthe broader Boo Singleton Project. This trail will enhance public access and understanding of the Licking River ecosystem by integrating interpretive signage and land stewardship practices along ascenic walking route.
The trail will begin with a short gravel access path, continue through a mowed pathway within a newly established wildflower meadow, and ascend along the new access road at Butler Community Park. Educational stations will highlight topics such as water and outdoor safety, riparian buffer zones and erosion control, endangered and endemic species, pollinator habitats, and strategies for reducing pollution and promoting recycling. This trail complements other Boo Project initiatives, including an annual river sweep and the development of a kayak put-in and take out to improve recreational river access. The effort is supported by a multi-agency coalition involving experts in environmental education, civic engagement, public infrastructure, waste management, and tourism, in collaboration with local government.
